Land Trust and Department of Fish and Game Clean Up
and Protect Parcel in Montague
The Franklin Land Trust and MA Department of Fish and Game
(DFG) are working with the
Estate of Rodney Beauchesne to clean up and conserve this critical piece of
property that is a
land protection priority for the DFG given its 1000 plus feet of frontage on the
Saw Mill River
(and its related wetlands), one of the Commonwealth’s premier cold water
fisheries.
The property also sits across the street from one of Montague’s public drinking
water supply
wells and has very high scenic value due to the close proximity to the Montague
town center.
At the completion of this project DFG will own the property and it will be open
to the public.

The Franklin Land Trust is actively seeking financial
support to secure the permanent protection
and restoration of this locally important property. We need to raise
$6,000 to help cover
the substantial clean up costs that are associated with this property.

To date the Franklin Land Trust has secured
$1,700 in matching
anonymous challenge pledges from local residents. We must raise
$1,700 dollars to secure that pledge amount. In addition we must
raise $2,600 more to reach our goal of $6,000.
Please read what one neighbor and anonymous donor has said:
"As a member of the community in Montague
Center, I'm so please that the Franklin Land Trust is providing us
the incredible service of cleaning up the Beauchesne property and
returning it to open space with walking trails and fishing spots.
They are protecting our water supply and the floodplain for the Saw
Mill River. I hope other neighbors will join me in supporting this
project."
