Are you curious about who has been visiting your backyard all winter? Have you been daunted in the past by the multitude of tracks on wildlife reference cards? Wish you knew a bit more about the animals around us? Join Franklin Land Trust for a beginner's Wildlife Tracking Workshop at Guyette Farm on Wednesday, March 3rd at 3:00 pm. Led by naturalist Cesi Marseglia, we will explore the trails of Guyette in search of wildlife track and sign.

Marseglia will offer an introduction to tracking, instructing us on what constitutes track and sign, where the best places to find animal tracks are, and how to track animals mindfully and respectfully. Using ecologist Mark Elbroch's Three Perspectives Approach, we will discuss animal foot morphology, trail patterns, and gaits. The demo will cover the importance of ecosystems and food webs in understanding animal habitat, and why it is helpful to understand an animal's habits, quirks, and physiology when tracking. Marseglia will close the program with recommendations on how to develop your skills as a new tracker, and resources to follow as you continue learning.

Attendance will be capped at 10 people, and adherence to FLT's COVID-19 safety protocols are required.

Pre-registration is required for all participants.

The program will take place outside at Guyette Farm, where we will cover uneven, possibly snow and ice-covered terrain - please come dressed for current conditions!

Should the event need to be postponed for weather purposes, the storm date will be the following Wednesday, March10th at 3pm.
