Announcing: D2R2 Spring Adventure Package
May 17-19, 2019
The Franklin Land Trust is excited to offer a new, unique opportunity to explore the back roads of this scenic location while supporting efforts to conserve the landscapes, that make this area so wonderful to visit.
The package: Includes accommodations at Stump Sprouts for Friday and Saturday nights,
6 meals starting with dinner on Friday night, D2R2-style ride options Saturday and Sunday geared to the desires and abilities of participants. Stump
Sprouts is located in the tiny, very rural town of Hawley, Massachusetts.
The rides: The experience and level of support will be similar to D2R2 but on a more intimate scale. 20 riders, max.
The best opportunities for riding around here involve a combination of dirt roads, rural paved roads and an occasional stretch of 4wd-type road or
ride-able trail. Expect hills. Mud, bugs and weather are also part of adventure.
I will ask you to tell me about your abilities and desires in advance so I can plan options that work for everyone. A gravel bike is ideal, but routes for road bikes or even a rail-trail experience can also be planned. A combination of maps, cue sheets and RideWithGPS files will be provided. Riders will be expected to do their own navigating with these aids. Courses will not be marked. I will try to match up riders with similar abilities but you are free to go it alone, if you like. Ride options will converge at a location where a vehicle will be available to meet riders with snacks, water, a floor pump and a few bike tools. Who knows? A local or two may just come along for the ride.
Check in time on Friday – anytime after 4 PM.
Dinner will be served at 7:30. Schmooze, meet new friends and discuss plans for the weekend ahead.
After a hearty country breakfast together, folks will pack a lunch. Homemade bread, sandwich fixings, fruit, drink mix, chips, homemade cookies...that sort of thing. Off and about for the day, we will return to the lodge for showers and a well-deserved complete home-cooked dinner.
Will be much like Saturday except the day will end with post-ride snacks and a shower, if you like, back at Stump Sprouts mid-afternoon.
Stump Sprouts is a one-of-a-kind venue. Handmade, home spun, rustic, beautiful are words that come to mind. Situated on 400 acres with stunning wild vistas and miles of trails from our door, you could choose to just hang out here for the weekend...read a book, watch birds, go for a walk. If not you, maybe your non-riding partner or friend would be interested in this. Rooms are simple, baths are shared.
Suzanne and Lloyd Crawford built the lodge and furnishings from trees harvested from the land 40 years ago. They own and operate Stump Sprouts to this
day. Together they serve as chief cooks and bottle washers at Stump Sprouts.
Lloyd serves on the Franklin Land Trust Board of Directors, the D2R2 steering committee and recently designed 3 new routes for the 2019 D2R2. He owns too many bikes.
Suzanne is the master gardener responsible for many things that find their way onto the menu. She is also involved in many community activities.
What you’ll need to bring:
*First and foremost...your bike and an adventurous spirit! Your bike should be ready to go. If it needs a tune up, try to do this far enough in advance so you can test ride it to make sure all is good.
*Basic bike stuff. A pump & spare tube and/or patch kit, a multi tool, 2 water bottles or hydration pack, your favorite energy drink and/or portable
snack (in case you prefer your own to what we will be offering) some way of carrying extra clothing, etc..
*Clothing. It can be chillier up here in the hills than where you come from. And yes, it rains even in paradise. Bring an appropriate assortment
*Beer/wine. Stump Sprouts does not have a liquor license. You are welcome to bring your own.
*Guests provide their own sheets, blankets, towels and pillows. These items are available for rent directly from Stump Sprouts if you are unable to provide

but should you need to cancel, please accept that your donation will be non-refundable...the work of the Land Trust goes on rain or shine. Thanks
in advance for your understanding.
