Mohawk Trail Conservation Area

  • Restriction Type FEE
  • Date Completed November 25, 1992

The Franklin Land Trust purchased the Mohawk Trail Conservation area in 1992, and in the process became the steward of a truly unique parcel. During the mid 20th century, the land that would become the Mohawk Trail Conservation area was a bustling commercial nursery, a history which is visible today in the neat rows of red pine, European larch, and Norway spruce throughout the woodlot. Although as many species in the property's present-day woodlot are exotic as native, the Mohawk Trail Conservation area is beloved for its cathedral-like woods and as a point of access to one of western MA's most notable long-distance trails: the Mahican-Mohawk Trail.

Activities: Hiking, birding
Hiking Difficulty: Easy

Access: Mohawk Trail (Rte 2) trailhead and parking area, Selburne MA.
