We are immersed in addictive technology that was designed to hold, and sell, our attention. How do we take back our most precious resource and refocus on the world around us? In this book discussion group, held on the second Thursday of each month starting January 12th at 4pm, and continuing on February 9th, and March 9th, we will examine this question together, using “How To Do Nothing: Resisting The Attention Economy” by Jenny Odell as our guide.
“How To Do Nothing” provides a nuanced analysis of what causes us to become so hooked on the internet, and who it actually benefits when we spend too much time online (hint: unless you work in the upper echelons of a tech company, it’s probably not you).
Even if you missed the first session, please join us! The conversation is wide ranging and welcoming, so you can jump in at any of the remaining sessions.
The discussion group will take place at the Arms Library in Shelburne Falls, and our second session will focus on Chapters 3 & 4 of the book, which can be purchased from most online retailers, including Amazon and Barnes and Noble.
