Nicolas Miller grew up in Shelburne Falls and graduated from Mohawk Regional High School before leaving the area to study geology. Since 2005, Nicolas has been working as a fluvial geomorphologist for a small consulting company based in Portland, Maine. Since moving back to the area about a decade ago, Nicolas has had the chance to work on many river-related projects in western Mass and throughout New England. This work usually involves watershed assessments, instream and riparian habitat enhancement, flood mitigation and planning, or streambank stabilization.
Nicolas values his time in the Hilltowns – a truly wonderful place to live with an approachable scale and charm. The varied landscape of orchards, hayfields, wetlands, and forested slopes play a major role in defining this sense of place. Conserving these places is crucial for climate resiliency and maintaining our local communities. Nicolas recently joined the Board of Directors and is excited to do his part to help serve the mission of the Franklin Land Trust.
