Conserved Lands

Since the Franklin Land Trust’s founding in 1987, we have accepted over 170 conservation restrictions (CR) or agricultural preservation restrictions (APR) on private land and a small number of gifts of property. Most of our CRs and APRs are donated to us by the landowners and occasionally the land trust raises funds to purchase restrictions. Our restrictions range in size from 1 to 300 acres and are located in over thirty towns across Franklin County region.

FLT also owns and manages Conservation Areas in Shelburne, Heath, Plainfield, and Buckland that are open to the public for passive recreation, including hiking, fishing, and birdwatching. Each Conservation Area is guided by a management plan that balances public access with environmental education, wildlife habitat conservation, and sustainable forestry.

FLT works to continually enhance these properties through trail construction and maintenance, educational workshops, invasive species management, and collaboration with local, state, and federal partners, as well as dedicated volunteers.
