Career Day Inspires Students

On the morning of May 11, 2023, Green Industry professionals and employers attended an event to promote their professions to the students and faculty at Dean Technical High School in Holyoke, MA. It was an opportunity to offer exposure to jobs and careers that young adults may have had little awareness of. The aim was to create a hands-on experience that could inspire greater interest and involvement in these fields. This was intended to inform students about the possibility of pursuing employment or a career in conservation and forestry-related occupations.
The Franklin Land Trust, represented by Emily Boss, staffed a training station demonstrating tree identification, use of forestry tools, and providing information about careers in conservation and forestry. Also at the forestry and conservation table were representatives from DCR service forestry.
Other demonstrations include tree removal, logging and sawmill usage, milling of trees, forest health – invasive plant species identification and removal techniques, tree inventory analysis results, consulting forestry and electrical service forestry, and tree planting as well as tree care.
